Christmas 2008, hard to believe
it's already come and gone.

We left this for that jolly ol fat man,
w/hold all comments please.

And in return,
he left us these.
Then it was off to Grandma's for dinner, and of course, more presents.

Ohhhh...yeah,
there were pies.

Twas a good Christmas
for one and all.

Hey! We got Jenga, too! That cylinder shape had em baffled before they opened it.
I'd say that was a fair trade you made with Santa. Telescope looks cool. We had one just like that when we were kids. You'll have to let me know if you see anything really cool. The moon's always great to look at. And Mars when it gets close is always good. I got to see Saturn's rings and Jupiter's moons once if you can believe it.
Anyway..glad it was a success!
I've heard of Christmas in July, but never Christmas in August. Let me guess...you're gonna resolve to fix your date stamp in '09... right after you watch WR.
Yes, first WR, THEN the date stamp.
I kick butt at Jenga btw.
Lookin forward to gazin at the nite sky, hopefully clear enough tonite.
My fave gift this yr hasta be GPS that S got me. Course, I'll hafta see if I can figure it out first; again, right after WR :)
The openin pic on this thread is quite unique. Used flash, but it turned out like this. No lights on above & behind me btw. Guess you can make what you want outta it; but still..unusual.
Great pictures! Sometimes food doesn't look so appetizing in picutres, but your dinner looks awesome. I love how everyone's got iced tea. :)
I'll say there were some pies. Holy cow. There's a ginormous green present behind little S in that one pic of the girls...any chance you remember what that was? Hopefully not your GPS.
btw, I have a Monopoly question when you're around. I'd text ya, but it's Sunday. It's my rule.
The big one was a mini basketball hoop from Sharp for his granddaughter (he's a basketball fanatic). That's her in the red. Cute little thing.
Now maybe the FOUR pieces a pie make sense, eh?
You consider me the Monopoly go to guy? I'll give it my best shot.
Ahh..that makes sense. Not many gifts are that big...unless you're talkin little ones, then they're all big. Didja challenge her to a shooting contest?
Yes, makes a lot more sense.
Well, you're a little late. ;) What we were wondering is when you land on a property and you have the choice to buy it...if you don't want to, then it goes up for bid among all the players. Why wouldn't you just never buy anything for the asking price and bid every time? And then if the price goes up to the asking price, just stop bidding. I don't get it.
That tree and that swing look perfect.
I'm a little confused about the Shetland pony with the bandana on, tho.
There's two versions: one, where you don't bid & another where it goes up for bu=iddin. In the electronic gm there's a timer that makes the biddin contest quite excitin.
We don't talk about the pony.
"Versions" meaning 2 ways to play the same game, or do you mean 2 different games altogether? I mean, in the instructions does it give you either way to play?
Ha! Sorry I mentioned him..her..it.
Version of game rules.

What is this thread, the "war on Hannuka"????
;-)
(I heard that O'Really has gotten calls from some of his listeners whining that he whines too much about the so-called "war on Christmas". They say that he's overreacting. He says they're wrong. I say, don't piss off your customers.)
"I say, don't piss off your customers.)"
That's the message that the major retailers got this yr. Costco, Lowes and others, who tried to go the "holiday" route, saw Walmart and other "Christmas friendly" stores kick their butts through mosta the "season", caved at the end and and went "Merry Christmas". Their is a war on Christmas and apparently the good guys are winnin a few battles.
Oh aye govna...aye.
I got a Wal-Mart gift card this year, and I was shocked that it said, "Merry Christmas". I'm really more of a fan of Target, but there are definitely things worth getting at Wal-Mart. Not clothes, but small appliances, electronics, toys, etc. Wal-Mart is the place to go for that stuff.
Plus the people there are generally friendly. I made a trip to Toys R Us this season and the employees at the Cedar Park store were VERY unhelpful and unfriendly. The one person I talked to on the phone at the North Austin store, was helpful though, so maybe that store is better.
Congrats to the Coogs, Reck!
Walmart rips off their employees to get those cheap prices.
And yes, I'm proud of the Coogs. 1st. bowl win since like 1980!!!!
Reck, I think you should resume posting on your Townhall blog.
I mean, you really don't seem to be getting any new blood by posting only here.

As if you think you can get real help at a WalMart. LOL!!!! -

Dud., I'm talking about O'Really's customers. Do you really think O'Really really has an impact on retail corporations other than by intimidation by his "brownshirts" (that would be you, dud.)
Nestor (and Linda?), Reck has a cool feature enabled on his blog too, a checkbox to "Email follow-up comments". Since Blogger doesn't seem to have an ability for a Recent Comments thingy, it's the 2nd. best thing and I recommend that ya'll enable that on your blogs.
And I quote Nestor from his blog: "Happy Holidays"

And of course, the ultimate response to the fake "war on Christmas" -

Thanks, the Coogs were certainly due.
Stan,
Re the TH blog. I guess at some point I may resume postin there. Just haven't had the inspiration to in awhile. The "email followup questions thingy" you mentioned; I have no idea what you're referin to there.
Stan,
I needed help at Wal-Mart trying to find a particular item. I found the nearest employee and they happily showed me where it was. Having worked in a store similar to Wal-Mart in high school I always make a real effort to find an item before I ask for help, which is what I did at both Toys R Us and Wal-Mart. The responses at Toys R Us were employees walking quickly away because they could tell I needed help, and employees too engrossed in their conversation about Guitar Hero or something to give me the time of day. When an employee did actually answer my question, I could tell he was answering because he felt cornered and not because he really cared about helping.
The Wal-Mart employee was also in the middle of a conversation, but she was extremely friendly, stopped what she was doing and helped me find what I was looking for.
I know this is not representative of every Toys R Us employee or every Wal-Mart employee, but I think all in all, the Wal-Mart employees generally treat their customers well regardless of what Stan thinks.
I think that means you get an email telling you when someone posts on your blog, but I'm not positive. If that's the case, it wouldn't do much for me as I check both when I check either.
(I won both Jenga games I played this week. :) )

Tom Waits...not so much
I'd say the manmade global warming people are in the 'violently opposed stage', hopefully they will soon accept as self-evident that the earth is cooling now, and was warming in the past primarily due to solar and other natural cycles.
You're in for a long wait; they'll never admit they're wrong. that's why they switched the terminology from global warmin to global climate change.
