It's Like Givin Rum To A Turkey

Finally...Florio's Pizza. Let me tell ya, that's some good za. Unfortunately if ya ask for blk olives they go alittle over board, but other than that, quite tasty.

Talk of Florio's New York style pizza goes all the way back to the now defunct Glenn Beck Blog. Our friends, Nestor & Carmen, were in town this weekend so we decided to meet up and give it a try. As "former" Yankees (they're both just a yr shy of that coveted "Official Texas Citizenship") and NY style za connoisseurs, they assured us, that once upon a time (been several yrs since they ate there), Florio's was top notch. It was. I also learned that the proper way to eat za is to fold it over, which serves a dual purpse; it keeps the toppings on and you get more outta each bite.

Afterwards we hit Da Vinci's
for a gelato.

Then, it was "down the road apiece" to our house, for a steamin cup a Reck's famous paint peelin coffee. I doubt they slept that nite.

Durin the coarse of the evenin Carmen went on to explain that growin up, her family had a secret turkey recipe (for lack of a better word). Anyhow, a week prior to slaughterin the bird they'd give it a daily shot a rum. The outcome was that the turkey meat would be the tenderess you'd ever taste.

But, me bein me, I came to a different conclusion. While I don't doubt that it worked, I have an idea there was a alterior motive. If your raisin a turkey for a couple a yrs there's a chance you could become attached to the critter. That bein the case, sippin the rum yourself over that seven day period could soften the inevitable blow; for both man and bird.

Hence, a new sayn is born. If you're in a situation where you gotta do somethin, and that particular somethin is necessary, unpleasant and inevitable; just remember..."it's like given rum to a turkey".

Aw..nice pic of them. Sounds like a good time. You needed me there, tho..you two agree on too much. Pretty good coinage there, Reck. That just might catch on.

RecknHavic said...

Yes, you shoulda been there; you're accent alone coulda gotten us a za discount.

The next mornin there were a couple a peices of pizza left and I knew I's prob regret eatin em for breakfast; but I thought, hey, it's like given rum to a turkey.

Linda said...

Mmmmm...cold pizza for breakfast is the best. It's always a good idea.

RecknHavic said...

Gave in the other day and let the kiddos get some ding dongs; they're pretty darn good for breakfast too. had a couple this mornin.

Anonymous said...

T likes those oatmeal creme pies. Same section where you get the ding dongs probably. I'm sure they're not any better for you, but they've got the word "oatmeal" in em! Eat up!

Well thanks for the hospitality, the stay awake coffee and for opening up your home to us. It was a great night. It was too bad we had to leave when we did, but you know...sleep and all.

Stan Rosenthal said...

You know, maybe if you invited me I'd make it out to Austin to hook up with "yous guys" when there's a get together.

But I never seem to get that invitation.

Is it that yous guys are protecting me from boredom????

If so, ThanX in retrograde. :-)

Next time I'm in H-town I'll holler atcha. I just don't think my life would be complete unless I debated you in person Stan. You are, after all, my favorite liberal.

RecknHavic said...

We hada good time as well. Next time...Wii.

Sorry, next time I'm in SLC...

Stan Rosenthal said...

Dud, I do still have friends and relatives in SLC. But I don't think they would lower themselves to hook up with you so I won't pass on your message to them. :-)

I guess you could interpret it like that, Reck. I'm so glad to have expanded your vocabulary. Thank me.

Well Stan, our church is having a Texas-wide seminar in Houston Memorial Day weekend. I'd definitely like to try to get together, maybe you would even be willing to come out to church on sunday. We've had a number of events planned in Houston (or Galveston), but there always seems to be a hurricane or some other disaster that prevents it. This year they moved it to Memorial Day wknd to avoid that.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor, when you and Reck and Linda get together, then invite me. What's the fun of meeting yous your one on one when it's possible to meet all three of you at the same time?

I mean, a meeting/greeting up with our little 4some "Bleck" (tm) group isn't the same when there's only 2 of us at a time.

RecknHavic said...

Ok, thanks.

"The Four" meetin up could be tricky, what w/ L in MI and you in SLC...or is it Oakland?

Stan Rosenthal said...

Dud, Houston is know 4 it's Hickory smoked BBQ, not Oak.

RecknHavic said...

Stan-
"Dud, Houston is know 4 it's Hickory smoked BBQ, not Oak."

That at Post Oak, bakers dozen; shim sham bama-lam.

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't be tricky for me if we met here. There..that was easy. One down, 3 to go!

Lol @ reck.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Reck, the (famous) Thelma's BBQ does use Oak, from my understanding. But they're no-where near (except that they're in Houston) Post Oak road. Moses' BBQ place (I'm trying to remember the original name of this BBQ place on the SPOR (South Post Oak Road)) uses hickory, I'm most certain. So did the place down here that wasn't on the SPOR (but it's close), Old Hickory Inn. It's the place the picture on the front page of my website was taken.

Katy Freeway, of course. Inside 610 it *USED* to be called the "West Freeway", but as I understand it that portion has been renamed to the title "Katy Freeway".

> The Astros, once upon on time, were the Colt 45's, but e1 called them the ____?

I have no idea. But I remember that they played on a temporary outside stadium on the grounds of what is now Reliant Park. I think it was slightly North of where Reliant Stadium and the LAstrodome stand today.

> List 2 nicknames for Houston, other than H-town.

Space City is one, Bayou City is another. Hell Hole is a third. ;-)

> What's the one thing Glen Davis couldn't do?

Who's Glen Davis????

Texas' team.

Who's Greg "Cadillac" Anderson?

Stan Rosenthal said...

So Reck, where did the Buffalo Bills used to play (hint, on the grounds of a Houstonian legendary furniture store that's currently liquidating on that spot.)

Stan Rosenthal said...

another hint: the Bills stadium is on the left hand side of this historic picture taken in Houston -

I guess that the Colt 45's used to be called the DOH! 45's.

RecknHavic said...

E1 knows about mattress Mac. HE...SAVES...YOU.....MONEEEYYYY!!! Tho, you could be referencn another, cause when I lived there he was on the north side a town.

Google didn't help, eh? Tho, your Buffs thing coulda been a vague reference to the Houston Buffs ball club.
I'm givin ya 3 1/2 outta 5(6).
Katy Freeway, Space City/Bayou City & Texas' Team are correct, you win a cookie.

Greg "Cadillac" Anderson played basketball for the Coogs and rode a bike to school (which earned him the nickname, given to him by his teammates).
Glen Davis played 1st base for the Stros and couldn't hit a curve ball. Think gaudy uniform era. It's when we had the Alvin Express.

Next time I'll make it easier for ya, I'll ask some Sacramento questions :)

Nestor said...

Hey Reck,

Perry or Hutchison?

RecknHavic said...

Hmmm...

Well, since I rate Perry up there w/ Satan, I'd say Hutchison.

Nestor said...

Wow, Satan?? Really?? Who'd you vote for last time? Carol Keeton Grandma McClellan Rylander Strayhorn?

RecknHavic said...

I think you mighta left one a her names off.

Anyhow, I like Kay. Plus, she's only got 3 names.
Perry's got Blogavich hair..I'm just sayn.

Nestor said...

Well I like Kay too. I don't really like the Aggie. But I wasn't sure if there was something I didn't know that you knew. I'm sure as it gets closer, we'll find more information out about them.

RecknHavic said...

Perry's a suit. Total company man. Card carryn member a the good 'ol boy network. It's his way or the highway. Never swim right after eatn. The white zone is for the loadin and unloadin a passengers.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor -
> Perry or Hutchison?

Neither.

Reck, Buffs? You might be correct on their actual title. But I'm correct on where they actually played their home games.

Nestor said...

Stan,

The Buffalo Bills play in a suburb of Buffalo, NY. I think the town's name is something Park. I always want to say Rego Park, but that's in Queens.

Linda said...

R> Perry's a suit. Total company man. Card carryn member a the good 'ol boy network. It's his way or the highway. Never swim right after eatn. The white zone is for the loadin and unloadin a passengers.

omg...too funny.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Lin, Perry's a HAIRBALL, just like Blago.

RecknHavic said...

They LOVED Blago on The View tho; even to the point a runnin their hands through his hair.

It's strange; usually they're so down to earth on that show.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Reck, you should check out Rachel Maddow's interview of Blago two nights ago. She cut him no slack, and in fact she might've baited him into saying stuff that legally might go against him in the future.

And ya'll thought that we Liberals would cut Democrats slack if we think they're guilty of something serious. LOL!!!!

RecknHavic said...

Yall cut no one slack if they might, in some way, make BO look bad.

But, yes, the MSM are goin after Blago as if he were a repub/conserv. I'll give credit where credit is due. You libs should try that once in a while.

Stan Rosenthal said...

I was under the impression that you thought that the MSM was the so-called liberal media.

In fact, Rachael is from the real liberal media (AAR, in her case.) Yet IMHO she gave Blagoff the most critical interview that he's ever had.

RecknHavic said...

"Yet IMHO she gave Blagoff the most critical interview that he's ever had."

Again, if a lib makes BO look bad, they're toast.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Then how come Rachael still has a job (and Blagoff doesn't????).

RecknHavic said...

Exactly!

Stan Rosenthal said...

Dud, Rachael's the Liberal. Blagoff is just a jerkoff.

Nestor said...

Stan,

Blago MADE OBAMA LOOK BAD. Therefore the vast left-wing attack machine was out on him full-force, just like they have focused their attention on Rush. Now I think he deserved to be impeached, but if it didn't look so bad for Obama, and if there was no way it could have been tied to Obama, he'd still be in office.

For proof of this, see the fact that the engineers of this recession, Charlie Rangel, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd are still in office. (not to mention Carter and Clinton) Why are they still in office? Because their failures have not been linked to the recession by the media, and their failures haven't made Obama look bad.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor -
> Blago MADE OBAMA LOOK BAD. ...

Garbage. Blagoff made Bagoff look bad.

RecknHavic said...

Stan-
>Blagoff made Bagoff look bad.

Straw man. Attack the *REAL* Blagoff/Bagoff. Your missin your mark as-per-usual.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Sure Reck. I should've called him "BlagOYVEAich" instead of "Blagoff".

Linda said...

Excuse me for interrupting...does anyone else have difficulty gettin into this site? I get kicked out the first time I try. Just curious.

Stan Rosenthal said...

I'm having no problems getting here, Linda.

RecknHavic said...

It's probably because of the high volume of my readers. Once Stan's blog went (temporarily) down, my viewership shot way up :)

Nestor said...

Linda,

I have problems too. I have to quickly scroll down to the comment field and click on it before I get kicked out.

Linda said...

That's exactly what I do, too!! As long as I scroll right away, I'm usually good on the second try.
Weird!

RecknHavic said...

Hmm..I've had no problems..

I'll run a diagnostic ;)

RecknHavic said...

Ok, it's the 3rd a Feb. Guess I'll finish takin down the Christmas lites now.

It can't possibly be 71 there right now. Uuuuugggh. I did notice the sun slightly higher today. Peekin out from above the rooftops. K, it's not that bad. It got me thinking about your sun. Since you're on the equator, it must be fairly high in the sky even in the winter months, right? I'll have to think on that a little more.

RecknHavic said...

Our sun's wearin a sombrero.

Yalls forecast lookin better; highs in the mid forties soon.

Be sure & hydrate.

Think I'll make sun tea.

Full moon alert!

Are you aware you're under a wind advisory?

Nestor said...

It was cool enough today to wear a light sweater. It was warm enough to wear shorts too, but I went with the light sweater because I won't have many opportunities here pretty soon.

RecknHavic said...

Yeah, onea our "cute little" advisories, eh?

I went w/ the shorts.

Linda said...

I come here to marvel at the temperature on your weather gadget.
Ooooooh....82!

Stan Rosenthal said...

SAY (speaking in a Southpark style (even if it doesn't look like it)!!!!

Reck and Stan are gonna have a fight over @ my blog (tbsn.thesequencers.us)!!!!

Reck challenged a liberal to listen to him about creationism without calling him stupid, ignorant or whatever in the 2nd. line of my response to him.

SEE IF I CAN MAKE IT BEYOND TWO SENTENCES!!!!

Unless it spreads to other threads, the debate will be in the ""Bleck" (tm) gets a mention on The Word" thread.

Linda said...

Ha! I don't think you can do it, Stan. My money's on Reck. Of course, we're not talkin "strawmans" or "red herrings", so maybe you can handle it.

RecknHavic said...

Stan,

If you can put two coherent sentences together (in a row), I'll concede.

Carmen said...

Reck,

You're using triangular argumentation as per usual. ;)

Stan Rosenthal said...

Reck -

I feel like this is radio graffiti (Alan Colmes show)

Do what????

Ok, concede.

;-)

Stan Rosenthal said...

"Hello" Carmen, great to see you!!!!

Nestor said...

My bad. I accidentally posted as Carmen. It's usually automatically posting as me, so I didn't look to see if it was me or my wife.

Nestor said...

Stan,

Those two sentences weren't coherent.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Perhaps you're thinking of yourself????

Nestor -
> My bad. I accidentally posted as Carmen. It's usually automatically posting as me, so I didn't look to see if it was me or my wife.

I don't ever recall you or your wife notating that ya'll are married (if not one of you just being another pseudo or sockpuppet) before.

Nestor said...

If you're not doing anything Friday AM and want to protest against a very 'Dingy' person, give me a call and I'll give you the where and the when. It's between you and me, but closer to you.

RecknHavic said...

Gotta texture job manana. It's a bummer, cause i love me some protest.

Who is it anyhow?

Nestor said...

It's 'Dingy' Harry Reid.

RecknHavic said...

Eww...durn, wish I could! Yell "socialist traitor" at him for me. And ask em if he thinks the war's winnable NOW.

Shoulda picked up on the "dingy" hint.
Man, I'd like to be there.

Nestor said...

Well, I won't be able to make it, I'm working during the day tomorrow too.

RecknHavic said...

Not to worry. I'm sure if there's a protest demo of a leadin dumbocrit it will be splashed all over the national news ;)

Stan Rosenthal said...

Harry Reid *SUCKS*!!!!

I think it's that his Mormonism overpowers his being a Democrat. In his feeble mind.

RecknHavic said...

Durn! Shame we couldn'tave all 3 gotten together to protest Reed. Now THAT would'a been somethin.

Linda said...

'sniff'...I'm feelin so left out...

Nestor said...

Well, move to Texas and you won't feel left out!

Linda said...

Will you post something new for goodness sake? I'm tired of looking at Nestor's ugly mug!

Really... you could have given him a better mug.

RecknHavic said...

Nice play on words there.
