This is the canopy that greets
you on the drive in.

Always obey
park rules!

So, we set up camp...

Stacked our
wood for the fire...
And gotta fishin...

"cowboy up" and actually sleep at the campsite.

We did

And saw alotta
these...

And one of these...

And even had time for
the obligatory rest stop.
Whether for warmth, food or fellowship
the campfire was a popular spot.

Me & the Mrs.

Peace out

Great pics...that looks like fun. We don't really go camping like we did before we married, cuz we got married and then could go to my parent's cottage! We did go yearly north into Canada for Salmon, think I told you that. But we'd stay in cabins. Anyway, it looks very fun.
Not sure what I'm supposed to be seing in the 3rd pic from the bottom where you wrote 'saw lots of these'. Is there somethin in that brush?
That pic of you guys cold by the fire looks like us finally! I didn't know ya'll GOT cold! Finally...sweatshirts. (Seems you DO need stinkin sweatshirts.)
Linda, it's getting cold here in the AM and in the evening. It's still getting into the 70's and 80's in the day, but at night it's dropping into the 30's and 40's. As far as cold, really cold, I'm talking Yankee cold here, during the day; two weeks in January and one in February. As far as Texas cold, Probably mid-December through February.
Looks like a great time. We want to get some camping equiptment so that we can go camping maybe around March. I'd like to try some new park, but I'm also thinking about going back to Enchanted Rock.
I love when the trees do that over the road.
That was smart of your dad to bring his own pink chair (and camo boots).
Your oldest has my dog's name on her shoes.
S isn't pullin off 'gangsta' w/ her pink hat. :)
Mmmmm...smores.
Nice lookin kabobs, too. Better than Survivorman's cricket ones.
Do you claim the oldest's friend as a dependent on your taxes yet? :)
Your stepmom's cute w/ her collar flipped up while hiking.
Any hot chocolate?
I'm assuming you got a permit.
That brush is palmettos, hence the name Palmetto State Park. It's ok, I didn't know what they were till I read about em at TSP&W.
I'd stay in a cabin too if it was 2 degrees outside.
Campin...March...yall should join us next time. We're plannin a possible Spring Break campin trip. Tho we may wait till April and go to Palo Duro Canyon due to it's still pretty cold up there in March. We'll see. Looked at Enchanted Rock SP as a possibility as well. Never been there but I'd like to go.
Actually that's the oldest's chair, but it would fit wouldn't it.
Pat Roxy for us Eagle Eye.
Oh...she's gangsta.
I'll try the claimin thing.
The kabobs w/ the steak, onions, zuc and mushrooms were better.
She's VERY citified, thus the collar...and the motel rm.
Plenty a hot chocolate w/ marsh mellows.
I'm Mr. Permit.
Ohhhh, the Palmetto plant. Thanks for including that tutorial mug shot. "Abuts"? I never knew that was a word.
You do know, that I know, that that wasn't your dad's chair. Even a man who wears orange plaid shorts wouldn't bring a pink chair campin. :)
Eagle Eye got a little obsessed over the shoes, cuz they looked too white to go camping in. So I looked at em in every pic. I can't explain my thinking...don't make me.
Just ask D's friend's parents first. I'm sure they won't mind.
"Marsh mellows"...is that another plant life indigenous to the marshes of South Central Texas? Or did you mean "marshmallows"...the spongy cylindrical pieces of white confection?
Go ahead...call me it. I deserve it.
Yeah, the confection thing. Was wonderin why I was gettin the red squiggly line when I put "marsh" & "mellow" together. S just called me a bonehead.
Nice paragraph on the mm thing btw; very clever :)...MKIA
Speakin a marshes, we saw one; the rest were dried up due to the drought. Also the "lake" was really kinda a big tank (or pond for those who don't call em tanks).
The river was cool; love the sound a runnin water.
As far as fishin went, we caught three bass and a perch all bout the size a the one Wailer's holdin in that pic. We tried usin em as live bait and cut bait but neither worked.
Now we gotus a serious fishin jones.
Actually, it's not that boneheaded. Spell check threw you off. If you'd had the two words together, I probably wouldn't have even caught it. MKIA?
Unless their sprinklers and you're stuck in the car, that is. ;)
Yeah, that's some tough fishing. That little guy didn't look like much of a fight. Half a taco, tops.
"Half a taco, tops."
Lol!
MKIA...Miss Know It All :)
Just saw the Eagles on the Country Music Awards, ALL the Eagles. Pretty cool.
I'm beat...Reck out.
Me too. gn!
Mornin...rainy and gray again tday. Hope your day starts better than mine...horrific dream this morn. Don't know why I dream like that.
No school today...conferences. Get to hear about what troublemakers we raised. ;)
Don't work too hard.
Just got an email from a friend...he said on the radio this morning he heard that hunting wives are now putting themselves on Craig's List for "service" while their husbands are gone for the week. Ouch.
How do you cancel something you've got on CL anyway? just kidding.
I just wikied Palmetto State Park and I noticed that among the squirrels and white tailed deer, armadillos can be found! This may sound crazy..but wow! Really? I've only seen those in the zoo and I never really thought about them roaming about wild in the states. Have you seen em? They're sorta so ugly they're cute. Are they skiddish? Fast? Slow? Curious?
Ready for tonites picks? Reck at work till showtime. BTW, I am so gangsa I have to wear the pink hat so that im not so scary.
Hey kids...while pickin your picks tnite, you might wanna include tribes to win rew/imm AND people to win rew/imm, (in addition to vote out), just in case there's a merge tonight. This is so I don't havta call you half way thru scrambling. Not that I don't enjoy that...actually I do. But when widowed for the week, I tend to crave adult interaction, so I may keep you on the phone longer than you'd like. ;)
So.....what's for dinner?
See what I mean?
Hi! Not quite...I'm still stressing over who I'm picking. (I really oughtta get a life.)
Oh, I get the hat now. Well, it worked cuz you didn't scare me a bit! :)

Nah, it's alright. It was a lot harder when the kids were really little. When T was 2 and B was 6 weeks, it was awful.

You guys interested in doing what we did last season and drafting again? There's 8 peeps, and 4 of us, so it'll work nicely...
Sorry, it's just hard to imagine never seein an armadillo. And in a zoo? That's like puttin a crow or a racoon in a zoo. There's seriously zoo armaillos? Too funny!
We used to go armadillo kickin when I was a kid. You chase em and kick em over till they play dead. Tough tho cause they are kinda fast and they hit the brush pretty quick.
Now, when not be frantically chased by kids they're pretty docile, tho they usually walk away if approached.
yall don't have squirrels in zoos do you?
Sorry..couldn't help it :)
NO!!
Just kiddin..
Sounds good to me, I'll hafta ask S after ER. DO NOT attempt to speak to her durin ER.
If I'da known about the armadillos, you can bet I would have been lookin for em when I was down there. Aw...kickin em? Poor little ugly things.
Ha! No. No squirrels in the zoo.
Don't forget, it doesn't undo what you've done so far. I'll keep those numbers, winner boy.
ck your email...I may have cleared up the gray box dilema and am now your new best friend. Or everyone elses who emails you and gets back, "all I get is a gray box!"
Or I could be wrong. Let me know.
It ain't over till it's over. But, I approachin a Dave type lead :)
Don't worry bout the armadillos, they got tough skin.
Hey Lin, S here. On the subject of armadillos, Recks grandma traps them cause they dig holes in her yard. After they are in the trap she sprays their back ends with hot pink spray paint and takes them several miles away and lets them free. This is because she thinks its the same one coming back over and over to torment her. So if you are ever in LaGrange Tex. and see a pink dillo ya know where it came from.
Ha! They must be the laughing stock of the neighborhood. I can hear em now in their NY accents..."Yo! Pinky!" (For a minute there I thought you were gonna say she cooks em. Whew.)
No cookin the dillos, but she does make a mean possum stew.:)
Say Lin, we were just wonderin if yall got dogs in zoos too?
"Hey, let's go to the canine exibit"
"Ahh...look, that ones chasin a stick."
Wonder if they'd have a Don't Feed The Dogs sign?
Sorry, but the armadillos in the zoo thing still cracks me up.
And if you didn't think we were redneck enough (think armadillo kickin) ask S about cow tippin.
Maaan...we are yokels.
K, you got me all doubtin myself, so I called my mom and asked her if we've seen armadillos in the zoo and she said, "well, yeah, I think so. I mean..I've seen one, and where else would I have seen one?" Excellent logic, Mom. I rest my case.
Then I googled 'armadillos in zoos' (I don't know why I let you get to me), and saw a number of zoos that house them. Cleveland, Louisville, Virginia...
So stop laughin at me. NO we don't have DOGS in zoos. (the chasing the stick thing cracked me up.)
While researching this ridiculous subject, I came across this little ditty...
"Armadillo racing became a popular amusement in Texas during the 1970s. Several organizations, notably from San Angelo, began promoting races throughout the United States, in Canada, and even in Europe. As a result, the animal is strongly associated with Texas."
"..popular amusement". Yeahhhh....that sounds like a GREAT time.
(we cow tip, too!)
Well, at least yall cow tip.
I'm thinkin the bears and the giraffes give the armadillos a bunch a competition at the zoo. Tryn to imagine someone sayn, "We are NOT leavin till we see the armadillos!"
heard a wiener dog racin, never heard a armadillo racin. Course what else is there to do in San Angelo.
Lol! Stop w/ the zoo jokes! I'm still laughin at the dog/stick one. Jeez, I'm never gonna be able to enjoy an armadillo at the zoo again. Oh I used to.
OK, this weather widget I got is useless. It's 9 degrees behind right now.
You might say it's got the reaction time of an...wait for it....armadillo.
Ok, I'll stop.
:)
A 9 degree lag is serious business. It may be time to part w/ it...color coordination or not. So far I'm liking mine. It seems accurate and I like the 3 day thing.
Yeah, the 3 day forecast is cool. I'll start lookin.
Course soon as I say that and ck it, it's dead on.
Not to mention, who's really gonna know the difference besides you? (And me, but I'm weird and check TWC anyway.) Nestor lives there, he knows. As long as the widget is aesthetically pleasing...
Yes, it's all about the aesthetics.
Cold mornin here. Our little cold front not lastin long tho, warmin up resta this week.
Reck,
Here's my Jefferson quote for the day: "To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical." Thomas Jefferson
I wish I would have put up the one from yesterday which was also very good.
Does the Detroit Zoo have goldfish?? Or maybe pigeons?? OK, OK. I have to admit though, the first time I ever say an armadillo...alive...was in McAllister Park in SA. I was doing a prayer walk over there and saw an armadillo sniffing around near the trail. I had been in SA for about two years and all 500 armadillos I had seen before that were roadkill. McAllister Park has some great deer, maybe you wanna get yourself a bow Reck, and head over there at dusk?
OK, I just looked at the weather widget, and either there is a big disparity, weather wise, between here and there, or you widget sucks. I get the color thing though, but if you can bring yourself to it, there are much better widgets out there.
The consensus seems to be "get a new widget Reck!" Ok..ok...I'll start lookin.
Shame you weren't here when we had tons a jack rabbits (tho you still see an occasional one) and the odd cotton tail can be spotted as well. And horny toads, never see them much anymore either.
Speakin a deer, our three were back last nite.
To stay w/ the critter talk, saw only the second ringtail I've ever seen driven home this evenin. Thought the exact same thing I thought when I saw my first a few yrs ago, "Look at the size a that squirrel!"
I think I'm on some blog blacklist at CNN. Every time I post on one of the blogs over there my comment is always awaiting moderation. Even though they'll post other comments that were posted after mine. I don't get it, I am always careful not to say anything too crazy, and there are disrespectful comments from people on the left and right that they post. I may have to switch to foxnews.com. I prefer the setup of CNN.com to fox's website, even though they lean left.
I hear ya. I've NEVER had a comment of mine post at CNN or MSNBC; always waitn mod.
Yes, we have goldfish AND pigeons. They're facsinating.(I'm just going to admit to it all at this point.)Back on the main computer but the writing's small. Hmmmm..gonna have to do some fidgeting.
Reck,
I saw that Sean Penn has a movie about Harvey Milk coming out. I'm thinking it will make about 8 million at the box office...maybe.
You have the America bashing Penn playing a gay, San Francisco politician. I don't think that's gonna go over well in fly-over country.
I'm reeeaaly hoping that doesn't get an Oscar nod so I don't have to go see it.
Linda,
You KNOW that's going to get an Oscar nod. It doesn't matter if it's the biggest piece of crap in Hollywood history, it's going to get an Oscar nod. There is an agenda, and the agenda is greater than the quality of the films. The gay mafia has massive influence in Hollywood, which is why a movie like this, that is going to lose money, will get produced and made. It may not WIN an Oscar, but it will get nominated, and no one outside of Hollywood, San Francisco and NY (besides possibly a few people in Austin and Linda) will see it. But that's how things work. The liberal agenda is greater than awarding truly deserving films.
Wow, Penn playin a gay politico AND interviewin Raul Castro, he'll win an Oscar for sure; maybe two.
And you're right about the gay mafia, they own Hollywood. Just look at how positively gays are portrayed in filmnd tv (not that there aren't good gay people), but whens the last time you saw a gay person portrayed poorly in a script. Now Christians, that's another story.
A great example a HW biased is The Passion. Set aside the story; the actin, directin, etc in this movie was superb. Yet, it was snubbed by the HW elites. How typical.
The only time I can remember a gay portrayed poorly in film was 'Death to Smoochy', which was a comedy and hilarious.
