Fright Night

The youngest, who turned 10 last week, wanted to go to Fright Night at Fiesta Texas for her birthday. Since we weren't able to go last weekend, the girls and I hit it yesterday (the boy had to work, poor boy).

Her first roller coaster
ride, The Boomerang.

Oh yeah...there
were tomb stones.

We walked away from
the game area w/ these
"prizes" for the bargain
rate of around sixty bucks.

Tired and hungry
we stopped to get
a bite on the way home...

At Jim's...
Yeah Jim's!

Well that sounds fun! Can't beat rollercoasters and prizes!

(Youngest looks like you, esp. in that rollercoaster pic.)

Nice rabbit ears.

Jims...what a silly name for a restaurant...;)

Hey, I'm gonna try to make my post like you do w/ the words next to the pics. Any tips before I get started/frustrated?

Never mind...I just wrote on top.

So did little S like the coaster? My boys aren't thrilled w/ them yet. I made em go on a water one at Sea World and T had his head on his lap the whole time. (Ya know,I think I've told you this before.)

It was fun!

Thought I'd start her off on the one a the most terrifin rc's there (ya know, so the others would seem tame). Big mistake, she may be traumatized for awhile now :)

The Boomerrang lifts ya up a steep slope slowly( so you're kinda hangin forward for bout half a minute). Whole time behind me I hear her yellin. "I want off now! I want off now!"
Then it zooms down the ramp, two loops w/ twists; then it suspends ya on another slope and you go back through the whole thing backwards.

There were no more rollercoasters after that :)

Her fave rides were the freakin water ones. So basically I was wet and kinda cold the rest a the day/nite.

Oldest went through the same thing. At about 11 yrs old we took her on a rc; it was 3 years till the next one :) Now, she loves em tho. Youngest will be the same way.

Jim's rocks!

Best ride there is a new one, Goliath.

Lines were incredibly long for all the rides tho; from 30 mins to an hour. Next time we go will be durin the week (spring time prob).

Cause of the freakin expense in the park we take food in coolers and go to the van for lunch, drinks (excludin water; couple a water bottles and free fill ups at fountains) and snacks. Tho they do getya at the gamin places.

were all alittle sore, lotsa walkin.

Geez! Poor thing! "I want off now!" LOL! I thought it was just mine, maybe that's common at their age.

That's nice they LET you go back to your car. They'd make more money if they didn't.

I get cold just lookin at these pics. Put some clothes on for goodness sake! Brrrr...

Very funny.

Hey, when it dips down into the upper 60's and you're wet, it gets pretty cold...to Texans.

They've loosen the rules there even more. Found out you can carry in water, gatorade (no cokes or beer tho) and certain snacks.
But, it's tough trudgin back to the car for turkey sandwiches when you're walkin through the park smellin bbq, zas, burgers and such.

Jim's. I don't think I've been to Jim's since we moved here, but I don't know if I've seen one in Austin.

We only went to Six Flags once, for Ryan's birthday two years ago, and the waterpark was closed. It was pretty disappointing because that's where he really wanted to go, and Carmen is the only one who is into the rides that spin in more than one direction. I'm cool if a ride goes in one direction, but when it goes in three directions, you might not want to be withing 3 feet of me, in case of the projectile vomiting.

For the record, I was referring to Six Flags 'Fiesta Texas'. I went to Great Adventure (NJ) a few times in Middle School and High School.

I haven't been on a big rollercoaster for a looong time. Just small ones w/ the boys. Gosh, if I can find that pic of us on the water ride I'm gonna show it to you guys..it was so funny. (They take a pic when you're dropping and then try and sell it to you.)

I'm assuming Jim's is a chain like Big Boy?

Nestor said...

I don't remember Big Boy. I think we used to go when we lived in Cali, but I was just a kid then. I would say it's like Denny's...Texified.

RecknHavic said...

I remember Kip's Big Boy when I was a kid. Thinkin it's an age thing Nest, you bein the youngun here.
IHOP used to be good as well, but over the last several yrs they've dropped to Denny's level; not so good.
Over by North Star Mall there's a new, sorta fancy lookin Jim's but it just doesn't seem right; give me the plain-Jane Jim's any day.
Thing bout Jim's is (besides consistantly good food) they have the best waitresses. And they magically appear if your coffee cup starts to get low.
I could talk about Jim's all day :)

I remember when I was 12 or 13 me and two friends went to AstroWorld and they had a new ride called Greased Lightnin. It was the first loop ride roller coaster there. So it was rainin that day and the ride was closed and we were all (seeminly) disappointed. Right before we were gettin ready to leave that day they announce that it was openin so we had a chance to ride it. My one friend's (who was my best friend as a kid) face literally turn green when he heard it was open; he refused to ride it.
So, what did Mark end up bein when he grew up...a fighter pilot :)

We have so many Coney Island type places here, I don't go to the chains that often. (My Utah friend counted the coney islands from here to the airport.) I thought Denny's was pretty upscale. No? Not upscale, but I mean nicer. Nicer that Big Boy, I'm thinkin. Does Elias Brother's sound familiar, Nestor? Cuz those are Big Boy's I think. Mmmmm...Slim Jims. Now I'm gettin hungry.

That's pretty tricky gettin especially good waitresses in every Jim's. And I wonder if they all had "can magically appear" on their resumes.

Nestor said...

I've never heard of Elias Bros. In CT, we mostly had family owned diners, which are better (imo) than Denny's, IHOP, or Jim's. But you don't see those around here very often. We find ourselves going mostly to chains nowadays, becuase you know what to expect. It won't be earth-shattering, but it will be good. But, nothing beats a nice family-owned diner for my money.

Linda said...

That's what the Coney Island places are, family diners. I don't know why they all like to call themselves coney islands, tho. Lulu's Coney Island, The Senate Coney Island, Rocky's Coney Island...weird. They have everything on the menu, but there are the coneys and greek stuff, so I guess that makes em a Coney Island.

And THAT breaks the record for the number of times Coney Island has been typed in one comment.

Nestor said...

When you were talking about Coney Island and chains, I was sure you were talking about theme parks. So you call a diner, a 'Coney Island'. You call soda, 'pop' and you call the Lions a 'football team'. I may never understand Michigan.

Linda said...

Ha, you had to mention the Lions. We had to listen to the game on the radio yesterday, cuz the stadium didn't sell out so it wasn't televised! Which was a double bummer cuz I enjoy the Redskins coach.

Yes, it seems most "diners" around here call themselves CIs. Hmmmm...might be a good idea for a post in the future...

RecknHavic said...

"and you call the Lions a 'football team'"

Lol Nest!

Linda said...

'Ahem'..it wasn't THAT funny. (Man, do we suck.)

So I forgot to mention a funny thing that happened at B's bday shindig. All the kids are sittin around the table eatin za, and one of boys (10), who's real bright (just ask him, he'll tell ya), says,
"So...did you guys hear that Ford stock is at $1.99?"
Lol! I nearly choked. Of course the rest of the kids had no idea what he was talkin about, nor should they.

The only problem w/ this kid is it's obvious his parents tell him how brilliant he is, so he likes to remind people, and disagree with adults, which isn't cool. He'll be obnoxious in a couple years. Right now it's mildly charming.

RecknHavic said...

Yes, the charm will end soon.

Don't feel too bad about your Lions; I'm sure they could beat Michigan...w/ a few breaks..and a couple a blown calls...maybe a fumble recovery on a punt or two, deep in Mich territory...

..maybe...

Linda said...

Keep that up, your charm'll end soon, too. :)

RecknHavic said...

I really can't say too much, what w/ the Coogs bein in that top tiered C-USA ;)

Nestor said...

That boy sounds like one of the characters in Narnia, (Voyage of the Dawn Treader) before, and during his first visit there. Maybe he just needs an experience to scare the crap out of him to straighten him out.

Linda said...

Hey, you were messin w/ your blog tday, too! I like your new stuff!

Linda said...

I really don't know how you managed to get that pic of Aslan on top so beautifully positioned. It's perfect and I don't get it!

RecknHavic said...

"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them, because they are Spiritually discerned."

Either that or you haven't found a pic that fits yet.

I'm hoping it's option B.
