Hip Check

This past weekend was the my grandma's ninety-second birthday. The fact that her b-day falls just before the fourth is usually a good excuse for family and friends to get together up at her place to celebrate both events. Luckily this year many were able to attend.

Grandma, three days and three screws later. (her surgery was last wed.)

There was of course plenty of good bbq (Scooter hard at work) and cold drinks (Sharp12 lends a hand).
Some gathered in the shady spots...

...while others relaxed by the
pool.

Corre
ct use of a bull whip...incorrect use of a bull whip.

There was entertainment on the front porch...

...plus a/c, snacks (and plenty of red birds!) indoors.

Some time on the swing for Mr. & Mrs. H.

But eventually, all roads lead home.

I take this as a thread about elderly broken bones.

Reck, I think it's very "hip" of you to post about this subject.

Who ARE all those people?! Dang, you gathered quite a group there! For some reason I didn't imagine that big a shindig. Looks like fun! I'd like to give that bullwhip a crack.

What's Scooter cooking on? And there's a buggy behind him. I just thought I'd point that out. You might wanna move that...may be against code. And in one pic I saw a horse? You'd think you lived in Texas or something.

Looks like someone heard gma likes red birds, so that's what everybody gets her for Christmas.

Great pics..thanks for posting em.

(And love the hockey reference in the title.)

She likes em a bit.

You must have the obligatory covered wagon at bbq's down here btw.

The whip was just plain scary. Got myself on the forearm pretty good and then later a decent foot long welt on my back; I am a ttl putts!

Reg. "bbq". I've heard bbq used to describe pulled pork mixed w/ bbq sauce on a hamburg bun. I use the term to mean grilling. So what does bbq mean down there?

I just found out you're a chastiphobe. I may have to reconsider this friendship. ;)

"chastiphobe"...lol.

RecknHavic said...

Possum.

Just kiddin.

It's raccoon and hog jowls :)

Anonymous said...

The fact that you knew to put 'hog' and 'jowls' together, tells me you've tried it.

RecknHavic said...

Well, I might eat it at a restaurant, but I draw the line at homemade.

RecknHavic said...

Actually, my late grandmother used to make hog's head cheese.

Never eat this btw.

Re: the hockey reference..thought you (and Nest) might like that.

I just noticed the title. I looked at the blog last night, but didn't catch it. I did, however, catch it before looking at the comments and realized Linda beat me to the net. Oh well, the way the o'skys live and breath hockey, she should have beat me to it. Looks like you guys had a great time. I guess you're about as good with a whip as I am at tether tennis. You're no Indy.

RecknHavic said...

"You're no Indy."

That hurt man...that really hurt..

That freakin bull whip (which no one else had the guts (or maybe stupidity) to p/u was one dangerous sucker. Later that day I tried it again, and S can attest, produced a foot long welt on my back.

Ttl sub change: your Mets are pickin up so momentum.

Are the Tigers? Cuz we're goin to the game tnite.

RecknHavic said...

You guys are sittin right at .500.

Which is way better than my 'Stros.

Anonymous said...

Just in case you stumble onto the Tigers game tnite...look for us behind the dugout along the 3rd base line. About 16 rows up, I'm in a green bball hat! Later!

Didja see us? ;) What a great game.

They're starting to turn it around. They're only about 2.5 games back so if they get it going they should be able to take the division. Ususally they play well in the beginning of the season and crap out at the end. (Though last year they outdid themselves) I've been hoping for a number of years that they would play decent baseball for most of the season and turn it on in August, September and October. Maybe this year will be that year. Here's hoping. As far as the 'Stros go, well, they ain't winnin' that division. But they aren't so far out of the wild card to lose ALL hope. But it'll be tough. Looking at the standings, I'm thinking the Mets need to win the division to make the playoffs. That Central Division is really solid this year.

RecknHavic said...

Sorry, Didn't catch ya.

Who won?

Stan Rosenthal said...

Me. Reck my friend, you have a very bad attention span.

It's a mess.

We won 9-something.

Thought this one was funny tday...
At the grocery and Tony's over in produce with a brown, ugly, furry kiwi in his hand and he says under his breath, "New Zealand Apple..." So I come up behind him and say, "honey, that's a kiwi". And he says with great relief, "Oh! I was gonna say! Poor New Zealand!!!"

Anonymous said...

Oh, I shoulda probably mentioned, the sign DID say NZ apples...it also said kiwi in smaller print... they were both on the cart.

RecknHavic said...

I think I remember doin New Zealand apples in college ;)

Seriously tho, I'm impressed he got New Zealand outta NZ; sharp kid.
