Come take a drive
through the
Texas Hill Country

Yep, we got blue bonnets

It's worth a trip

Wow!! Beautiful! That's some seriously lovely country you're living in. Too bad you spontaneously combust in the heat. kidding. Great pictures,R. You've inspired me to show you some of up north. (Is there a hunting season for that one critter w/ the dangerous hands? Your DNR might wanna consider it, or TX may permanently lose its natural resource, the Girl Scout Cookie.)
Thanks, we like it.
C/o the dangerous hands critter: No GSC is safe, pretty much yr round :) Notice on zoom shot the permanent traces of paint on the finger nails. In fact, I just looked at em (as I'm typen and there's some there).
Yes, would like to see some shots a your neck a the woods.
These pics make me think about that song, "God Bless Texas".
And hearing that song makes me think about that Ford commercial.
Lol!
I haven't been able to post at Stan's. I'm going to explode with snarkiness soon. Must...make...Olbermann...joke...
Maybe you're bein moderated :)
I got my first two spams on this thread. Lottery stuff I think.
Are you implying that Stan doesn't love me anymore?? Take it back! ;)
Have a great weekend! Happy Father's Day if I don't get here before Sunday's end. (Who am I kidding, I gotta post Glenn pics!) Anyway, hope you enjoy yourself. Catcha Sunday.
Thanks Lin.
Yall have a great trip!
Yep, we're in Cleveland! What a storm that came thru the ballpark!
Had to post...gutted by news of Tim Russert. My Sunday mornings will never be the same. I'm so gonna miss him...
Can't listen to news anymore. Cryin's gonna leave me w/ puffy eyes and I can't have that...dang it, I'm pissed.
Yes, sad about Russert. One a the few news guys I liked.
BTW, what is "a storm"? Least amount a rain (from Sept to May) on record here.
Since this is about the THC, I'll put a comment about particular happenings in the weirdest part of the THC.
Keep Austin Weird.
I don't know if its the official slogan, but it is the 'real' slogan. To demonstrate Austin's weirdness, here's a breakdown of downtown events for this Father's day weekend.
Republic of Texas Biker Rally (This shuts down parts of Downtown from 6th to 11th streets.
Peace of Mind 5K (This shuts down parts of Downtown on and around the UT campus)
Austin Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Pride Festival and Parade
(This shuts down parts of Downtown south of 4th street)
I have to work tonight so hopefully there won't be too many motorcycle accidents or fights between bikers and bikers, or bikers and runners, or bikers and "pride" participants. I feel bad for the overnight pharmacist.
Anyway, if I don't get a chance to say so later, have a great Father's day bro! And thanks for the well wishes Linda.
About Tim Russert, I feel bad for him and his family as this was so sudden. At least it seemed to be; maybe his family knew more. Anyhow its hard to see someone in the media that people have become attached to leave like that, especially when he was one of the few who actually asked tough questions.
Doesn't sound like there's gonna be a problem "keepin Austin weird".
Happy Father's Day to you too. From what I seen, you're a great dad.
Hi! Spent the day w/ Mr. Beck. Wait till you hear what I DID say when we met! I'm not the coolest of cucumbers.
I can only imagine :)
R, you should try hard to see the GB show in a theatre when he does it live from Dallas. I think it's the 17th of July. You would LOVE this show. It's got you written all over it.
I'd dig seein Greg live. will consider it.
Tell D the Havic's say happy Father's Day.
Posted a FD thread at my old TH blog.
I'll tell him, thanks. Hope you're having a good one. Watchin the Open?
I saw your post, really nice. I can't comment there for some reason. TH's makin me re-register and the site hasn't been available.
No, we watched RV w/ Robin Williams, surprisingly funny.
Fixin to catch the enda NBA gm 5.
Btw, kingsXrulz started a blog at http://doaner19.livejournal.com/
Smart fella. McCain guy, you'd like em. You do hafta register to comment there, but it's quick.
Not sure what's wrong at TH, but it is TH after all.
I've read a lot of his comments, and checked out the link you gave me. Honestly? A little intimidating, as I'm not that politically knowledgable. I'm a newbie, so I'll just continue to read!
Actually, I consider you very politically astute. Yeah, he's a knowledgeable guy, but far from highbrow.
You realize this is the sixth person I've gotten (well sorta gotten) to start a blog. Three of the Beck 4, king, Sharp 12 and Prince Of Wails (who in actaulity is my dad).
Well, I'm not.
Hm. Interesting, as I was once gonna ask you if you started "Wails" yourself, but I didn't take you as the deceptive type. Same w/ Sharp, as they started and quickly stopped.
Since I can't post on TH, but it's (kinda) still Father's Day, I'd like to post my shout out here for my daddy.
My dad was born on the kitchen table, delivered by his grandma. He was raised by good, hard working, god-fearing, Italian immigrants, who instilled a heck of a work ethic in their boys.
His parents had 5th grade educations, but all their boys went onto college, and then some. (All but the oldest, who was killed in a car accident when he was 22... and my dad's never been the same.) His dad was an alcoholic and pretty abusive when he felt like it. It amazes me that my dad turned out to be such an amazing father. So loving, considering what he went through.
He was, tho, very tough. Very "my way or the highway". I always felt his love was conditional..as long as I did what was expected of me. When I went to Europe w/ out his blessing, he didn't talk to me when I'd call home. I was seriously scared to come back.
Of course, looking back on it, I understand he thought it was wrong, and couldn't compromise his postition...but the love was always there.
He's not the same dad that raised me...he had a stroke which changed a lot. I went to his rehab, pregnant and with a two year old every day he was there. In some ways, our roles reversed as I helped him tie his shoes and heard him cry. A lot of adjustments had to be made. I had to learn that when he yelled at me, he didn't have control over it. I quickly learned to stop crying and not take it personally.
I'm so glad he's still with me. I talk to him every day and in ALL ways, he's still my beloved dad. Dad's and daughters have a special thing...you're lucky J.W. and Nestor to have that, and I think your daughters are lucky to have dads that know it.
ok, reading my second to last post, it sounds like I'm calling you out. Didn't mean it like that.(Feel like I've been puttin my foot in my mouth lately.) Actually it's too bad Wailer and Sharp stopped, I was enjoying that. Are you part of a 'start your own blog' campaign? Do you get a bonus for every one that goes up? ;)
Bonus, I wish.
I think some people like to blog and some don't. I've attempted to get family and friends involved w/out much success. For selfish reason probably, cause I spend alotta time on the comput.
But no, I'm not Sharp, Wailer or Svetlana :)
You're a good person to take care a your dad like that. Forgiveness is liberaten.
Oh I totally forgot!! I swear Svet was at the convention! If she didn't live in the Rockies, I woulda asked her. She had the thick Russian accent and was talkin about how it was to be raised there, etc. Weird.
B just asked for ketchup for his corndog and T goes, "Ben, that just adds sodium chloride to your meal." Jeez, I'm raising a buzz kill.
That IS weird. You shaoulda called her out ;)
"sodium chloride" ha!
Tell T that Reagan said ketchup's a veggie.
I definately got too much time on my hands right now. reaggravated a shoulder injury this week and haven't been able to work for a few days. Manana hopefully.
I would've done, but I forgot by the time the thing was over.
Are you goin nutty? Welcome to MY world. I can fill the time pretty well, tho. See? I'm doin it right now!
btw, most of the time, google/blogger doesn't automatically come up w/ my name when I post, that's why no blue and underlined for me. Dunno why.
And another thing, what didn't you like about the Indy movie? You never really went into that and I was curious. Poor character development? Bad acting? Discombobulated cinematography?
Ok, I officially cannot post at TH or Stan's. :(
Hmmm...are you logged in? Some times at Blogger I hafta, or occassionaly I'll clear history and hafta sign-in at regular spots.
Re Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Extremely Dull.
Don't wanna give away too much for those who still want to see it (you know, the hundreds upon hundreds of reckblog2 fans); so i'll just say this...
horrible script
horrible acting
horrible direction
It shoulda been made 10 yrs earlier (w/ a different script). Or, they shoulda played to Ford's age, insteada the way it went.
We watched National Treasure II the other nite. Ok movie (the first was better, but not a great movie), miles better than last IJM.
Wish you hadn'ta brought it up, it was that dissappointn.
We've got Nat'l Treasure 2 here to watch. I enjoyed the first one. Maybe tnite, popcorn sounds really good right now. I heard there was some type of alien twist to the Jones movie. Ooops, there I go bringing it up again.
I don't know how to "log in".
Picked up some diet green w/ mixed berry flavor. Why do they have to "flavor" everything? Citrus, berry...what's up with that? It leads me to believe that it's yucky on it's own.
Oh and I'm in a sweatshirt right now. Jealous? ;)
omg...my brother just called me from the Obama rally downtown...
Sweatshirts! Sweatshirts!
Rub it in.
Actually, I'm wearin one too, 'cept it's short sleaved, if ya know what I mean...
Your bro needs help..perhaps an intervention of some kind.
Discombobulated cinemotagraphy..I just caught that ohrease rereadn..you're funny.
Ok, yes..FREAKIN! ALIENS!......GIVE..ME..A..BREAK!!
That's it...let it out...it's gonna be ok..
Got somethin against aliens? I actually heard that after you'd seen it and I started laughing thinking of how pleased you must have been.
I know. He's very excited, they have really good seats. Oy.
And the real irony is that I was searching the net for "drill anwr" tshirts when the phone rang and he says, "yes! we! can!" Somewhere between last election and this one, we switched places.
Arizona green tea is the ONLY green tea.
It wasn't so much the aliens (sm part a movie) it was just a BAD movie. I was actually noddin near the end.
Guess what were watchin..The Golden Compass. I know..I know, but I watched the preview, S has read the books and youngest really wanted to watch it. Previews looked good.
Go to CafePress for Drill ANWR shirts, if not there try Right Wing Stuff.com
I was at that site, thanks.
Interested to hear what you guys thought of it. I'm not telling you what I'm watching. No really. I'll never admit it.
Blue Lagoon? Ernest Goes To Hollywood? Bob And Does Excellent Adventure, Part Two?
Well, so far some uncomfortable parts. The do kinda dress the bad guys priestish. Each human has a familiar (an animal counter-part) called...demons (very subtle). Some are good, some are bad. Oh, and the good rebels are called Egyptians.
Oh, there was a good line from the good polar bear (who's a polar bear, not a demon). "Child, your demon is your soul." Nice! Lotta pausin and explainin goin on here.
it's just a movie...it's just a movie..
That's too bad, was hopin it was more enjoyable. It IS just a movie, not like it'll undo anything. No worries. (Except that it's taking you twice as long to watch it!)
Those are the kind of polar bears Glenn would take pleasure in drilling through to get to the oil!
It's ok, 'cept for the moment when youngest asked, "hey dad, if you could have a demon, what kind would you pick?" Seriously.
But we pretty much covered what these "demons" are. I know why so many are troubled by this movie, it's that word. But we're keepin it in perspective, plus she's a sharp kid who's strong in the Lord.
No worries here.
Ha, yeah. Plus the bad guys stronghold looks susiciously like a Mormon temple.
Glenn would not be happy.
Well, it's over. Was better the Indiana Jones debacle.
Observations...
Subtle jabs at organized religion (which is ok by me).
Good witch's name was Seraphina (I believe the seraphim are one of the three levels/type of angels).
The main theme was a battle for free will (again, that's fine).
The "demon" part was difficult. Mainly because there are principalities of darkness in the world (real devils). Not something to be triffled w/.
Overall on the Reck Scale I give it a 4 (based on 1-10)
Narnia was better.
Ok, muscel relapsers are producin monty grananical arrows.
If you could "have" a demon..that's gold.
See, this stuff would go right over our heads. How did S think it compared to the book? (D insists on sleeping on it before he rates it 1-10. ha.)
Alright fellow bloggers, I need parenting advice. (Besides going to church.) What to do about allowance/chores. I never had an allowance as a kid. I guess I was given money for whatever came up. What I did around the house was just expected of me...part of living there. I wasn't "paid" for helping out. (Sometimes when they get verbal praise for something, they tease with "what do I get?". My answer is always, "you get to continue living here".)
But, kids like to have their own money to get things because most of the time they hear "no, not today". Just wondered what the general philosophy is out there...not sure what to do.
Oh, and you should be taking "relaxers" not "relapsers". ;)
S said she never thought much about it when she read it couple yrs back (she reads lots a fantasy novels). Tho the constant referral to them in the movie bugged her now.
We don't give out allowances unless the chore is above and beyond the normal stuff. And that's rare.
But, they got it fairly easy. Two dish nites for eldest two, one for youngest (w/ alittle help).
Other chores...youngest responsible for feedin dogs and fish daily, oldest does the cat litter twicw a week and the boy does poop patrol outside twice weekly. Oldest does some laundry. Boy does yard when needed. They all hafta do periodic weed pullin. Keep their rooms fairly clean and pickin up after themselves we don't consider chores.
W/ the two oldest we give them money to do stuff w/ friends (altho quite often we simply say no if they ask). They're all pretty good at savin money (from Christmas, b-days) to buy bigger stuff. The reality is we don't make enough to be constantly handin out cash. Doubt I would if i could anyhow.
Oh, and take them to church.
Thanks for the input! Sounds pretty much how I'd like things to run here. Just rubs me funny to pay em for something like making their bed, ya know? Mostly they want to earn money for Pokeman cards or a Webkin, and I say no so much, it gets frustrating for everybody.
I caved at the grocery today, let T have a rubber lizard for $2.95. You shoulda heard him.."I've been looking at that every time we come in here. Sometimes I'd think, 'don't ask this time. She always says no'". Sometimes it just sounds so sad.
I hear ya. I caved yesterday at HEB, it was a slinky. Tho youngest and I did have fun w/ it, seein how high we could stack things and get it to, well, slink down. She even went to the trouble a drawin out her steps before buildin em.
Totally unrelated subject..
After the "demon" movie last nite she wanted to watch "one more show", so keepin the "caving" theme consistant I relented. We're watchin Planets Funniest Animals and there was this bird. He lands on a dock and the people there toss em some bread. The bird takes the bread, hops down the steps to the water, tosses the bread in and sits there waitn. Soon some fish start nibblin on the bread and that dang bird starts snagin em. He was usin BAIT to catch fish.
Smart bird.
Whoa. That's down right creepy smart.
Ok, my kid's havin a "room sale" to make money now. If mom won't have a garage sale, I'll sell stuff to my brother from my room. Too funny.
"...a slinky, a slinky, fun for a girl or a boy..."
Oh my gosh...my oldest just goes.."hey mom...do you think Dad needs Nasonex?" He's gonna sell dad nasal spray.
What a little capitalist. That's very funny. Maybe he's doin it w/ dual purposes in mind. One, to make some money and two to make you feel some guilt for not coughn up some dough. You're raisin a good middle-a-the-roader there. My kids just barter (usually chores).
What's weird is you know the words. S does too, must be a chick thing.
Hey Reck! You're quoted on the homepage of TH!! That was strange...while I'm reading it, I'm thinkin, that sounds like Reck and I look and there's your name!
Yes, they quoted me :) Two days after Father's Day regardin a FD post...
Oh well...
Still..quoted! That would be funny if you saw a quote on the homepage from Stan...
"Strawman. You're missing your target as usual."
Stan and the Sequencers
That would be hilarious!
Goin to give a bid, wish me luck. Works suddenly gotten scary slow.
Hope it went well.
Goin to Mitchell's Fish Market for dinner. Don't think you have one down there. It's a fancy shmancy seafood place...takin my dad for Father's Day. I know, but my bro and I were both travelling on Sunday. Anyway, looking forward to the chicken.
It did.
Enjoy your..uh...chicken, at the fancy schmancy seafood place.
Well, "fancy"'s sort of relative. I'm a greek coney island girl, so much beyond that is fancy. It was good. I'm too cheap to truly enjoy it, tho. It's only food after all.
Is it me, or does it seem like this Boston/LA series has been goin on for a month?
My kids were aghast that the name of the restaurant had a "bad word" in it.
Have you seen the Geico commercial w/ Mrs. Butterworth?
"Ohh ho...someone has put a logo right over my face!" Funny one.
Haven't seen it.
So which one was the bad word?
OK,
I was having a hard time reading through all of the posts. You guys have been busy. How about the Lakers no show last night?
Linda,
With regards to allowance, a good rule that I've heard is a dollar per age per week. So an 8 year old would get $8/week. But it changes. We have chores set aside for Ryan to do. When he does them all, he gets privleges and a dollar. If he does them all every day of the week (which almost never happens) he gets an extra dollar. When he does his chores it is helpful, so giving him a few dollars is worth it. Right now there is a video game he really wants, so that is a motivation for him as well. My opinion is kids need to work. Give them age appropriate tasks, but put 'em to work. Dogs are the only freeloaders we'll have in the house, and truly dogs provide a service (protection, love etc) as well.
Nest,
Little S was readin this w/ me and she is ALL in favor of the dollar a week thing. I told her to dream on.
Thanks for the input. I think the reasons I haven't started anything are triple fold:
1. I'm gonna have to constantly remind them to do chores, which is more annoying than doing them myself. So I'm paying them and the benefit doesn't outweigh the frustration.
2. The whole "if you want things done right, do them yourself" philosophy.
3. Mostly I think it's that I feel a little guilty bein a stay at homer, and not taking care of it myself. I know that has nothing to do w/ raising kids w/ a work ethic, but it's part of makes me an enabler!
I'll figure something out...just wondered what ya'll take on it was.
As far as reminding them, if they want the money, you may want to make it very clear that you will not be reminding them all day long. Maybe have a chart for them. We found one we liked at Barnes & Noble. It has lots of different chores that you can interchange. It's an idea anyhow.
I thought this was sorta interesting...Limbaugh started his show tday w/ this thing that happened at Detroit's Obama rally. Apparently 2 Muslim women wearin head scarves weren't allowed to sit behind the stage where you see the crowd on t.v. the most.
Last night my brother was telling me 'did you see the people sitting behind the stage? Well, that was NOT indicitive of the crowd.' I've always noticed how the people in those seats look hand-picked. And those cute signs that look like kids made em at home at their kitchen table? They hand those out there!
Ahhhh....politics.
Actually I tried something very similar to this about 8 mos ago. Had the chart...they were all gun ho. Really wanted a Webkin. So they did everything they needed to do for a couple weeks, bought the webkin and conveniently found no more need to be doing the chores, as they no longer needed money! I told em it didn't work that way. So the chore chart came down till I could find a better plan.
Boys: 1
Mom: 0
My only experience at any type a rally as an adult are once in Dickinson Tx at a rally to support 1st Gulf War. The local news interviewed a guy I knew (he was a customer who came into the place I worked). He was a HUGE bonehead who had a hard time puttin two words together (no, it wasn't Bush). I saw them interviewin others there, but this is the guy that made the "news"cast.
My other experience was in Houston at a Support the Troops Rally (as heard on Glenn Beck). We made our own sign (saw none bein passed out); the pic is on one a the threads here. Shela Lee Jackson (who is a very liberal congresswomen) spoke there (the only lib to show). She was greeted w/ a smattern of boos and applause. She was respective of the troops btw. As she left she got mostly applause. I saw her shakin hands w/ people afterwards, as she was leavin. On the news that nite it said she had to be escorted to her car because people were threatenin her. More unbiased "news".
Make that Shela Jackson Lee.
More on Houston rally. I watched the news that nite (to see coverage and see if the Havics made the cut). Of the two stations I saw, both briefly covered Rally (attended by 5,000+ people). One station then showed a protest by about a dozen people at a train yard. it was a minute long story. Can't remember what it was about.
L,
You shouldn't feel any quilt about bein a stay-at-home mom. It's an incredably thankless, important job that more women should choose. Bein a House wife is one of the most admirable thing a women can do. I admire you for it.
Subject: WHO IS BARACK OBAMA?
There are many things people do not know about BARACK OBAMA. It is every American's duty to read this message and pass it along to all of their friends and loved ones.
Barack Obama wears a FLAG PIN at all times. Even in the shower.
Barack Obama says the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE every time he sees an American flag. He also ends every sentence by saying, "WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL." Click here for video of Obama quietly mouthing the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE in his sleep.
A tape exists of Michelle Obama saying the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE at a conference on PATRIOTISM.
Every weekend, Barack and Michelle take their daughters HUNTING.
Barack Obama is a PATRIOTIC AMERICAN. He has one HAND over his HEART at all times. He occasionally switches when one arm gets tired, which is almost never because he is STRONG.
Barack Obama has the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE tattooed on his stomach. It's upside-down, so he can read it while doing sit-ups.
There's only one artist on Barack Obama's iPod: FRANCIS SCOTT KEY.
Barack Obama is a DEVOUT CHRISTIAN. His favorite book is the BIBLE, which he has memorized. His name means HE WHO LOVES JESUS in the ancient language of Aramaic. He is PROUD that Jesus was an American.
Barack Obama goes to church every morning. He goes to church every afternoon. He goes to church every evening. He is IN CHURCH RIGHT NOW.
Barack Obama's new airplane includes a conference room, a kitchen, and a MEGACHURCH.
Barack Obama's skin is the color of AMERICAN SOIL.
Barack Obama buys AMERICAN STUFF. He owns a FORD, a BASEBALL TEAM, and a COMPUTER HE BUILT HIMSELF FROM AMERICAN PARTS. He travels mostly by FORKLIFT.
Barack Obama says that Americans cling to GUNS and RELIGION because they are AWESOME.
My sis in law sent me this Obama thing...thought it was pretty funny.
R,
Thanks for the support. I think "quilt" is part of bein a mom whether or not you work. (That some sorta freudian slip?) And the guilt didn't come till they both went to school this year, then it was 'am I doin enough?' I'll probably sub teach next year.
Ha! Quilt, it musta been, how I got all the way up there to the "q" is beyond me; not even close to the "g".
The Obama thing is hilarious! Now that's change I can believe in. From now on I'm callin him Bubba Obama.
Had a weird nite. Went out w/ my friend, and it looks like he's callin off his engagement. I saw some serious red flags, but tried to stay supportive. Looks like he finally figured it out. Still, tho. I'm sad for him...that's always tough.
Hey Reck, would you please tell Stan, over at his place, that I can't post there? I don't want him to think I'm not over there reading. Thanks.
I'll tell Stanley.
Sounds like he's goin through some stuff.
Youngest and I felt the urge tonite to break out the ice cream maker (1st time). Back from HEB and it's mixin; won't know till manana how it turns out. Plus, she likes the gettn to stay up late stuff.
Oh, I'll let you know.
Mmmmm...ice cream maker, eh? What flavor? Is it one of those you put in a big plastic ball and roll around till it's mixed? Never done it.
Pretty nifty.
Me either.
Well, ya mix the chocolate mix w/ milk and whipped cream, put it in the can which goes into this bigger thingy. Then stirrer and lid. Pack layers of ice and rock salt aroun can and it stirs till too thick to go. It just finished and we stuck it in freezer till manana. tasted like Wendy's frosty, sorta.
Can always count on you for specifics..."bigger thingy". I love me some Frosties.
I was just catching some of "Grand Canyon", older (90's?) movie w/ Kevin Kline. Anyway, it had a good scene w/ Kline teachin his kid how to drive in L.A., and the boy looked a lot like yours. (Good scene...don't bother lookin it up, it had Danny Glover in it!)
Danny Glover is a fine person.
If you like the communist seekin, murderer lovin, Catro palin, Chavez buddyin, over actin types.
Got an early one manana, should be in bed. Goin there NOW.
gn
One thing I didn't tell you about my Utah trip was the fact that we talked religion a lot on the road trip down to Zion. My friends were surprised, to say the least, at how much I knew and cared since the last time we were together. Apparently I sounded like I'd learned a lot.
Anyway, just wanna give ya'll a shout out once in awhile, cuz regardless, I'm always gonna owe you that. I like who I am so much more than I did a year ago. And when "Lucky Man" came on the iPod, I got the "who the hell ARE you???!) :)
Oh, and darlin man, you forgot to tell Stan. Maybe tomorrow?
Opps, forgot. I'll let him know.
Mornin btw.
Any word on the ice cream?
Thx for tellin Stan. (You're rotten.)
Oh, I had my brother pick up a Petosky stone for little S last weekend when they were up north. She's GOT to have a Petosky.
Maybe it's me, but kids crack me up.
Driving...
B: "Who honked their horn?"
L: "That truck over there."
T: "Did he do it in disappointment and disgust?"
K, I promised myself I wouldn't be chatty today. Doh! I can't help it!
The things kids come up w/ :) Makes ya wonder where they get it.
Disappointment and disgust. Pretty funny. How DID they come up with that?
Watched Nat'l Treasure 2 last night. Gotta say I was a bit disappointed. I liked the bit w/ the desks (secret combos, etc.), the end dragged out too long, I thought. Helen Miren was a nice surprise, I like her. Not quite what the first one was...
As below average as NT2 was, it's miles beyond IJ4. That's how dissapointn the last Jines movie was.
Do you think your review is for the average Indy Jones fan, or do you think cuz you're an uber fan, that you feel this way?
Uber fan..ha! Guess I am.
I think most fans will be majorly disappointed; others not sure. It was (on it's own) rather dull.
Forgot to answer your ice cream question.
Not bad..not bad. Far cry from Blue Bell tho.
We're watchin Space Cowboys. Which reminds me we DVRed "When We Left Earth" (7 part series I believe); haven't watch 1st one yet tho.
I liked that from what I remember. Don't know the series you're talkin about tho..
Discovery Channel I think. Ads for it looked great in HD. Don't think I'm gonna make the enda SC. Manana.
gn.
Nat'l Treasure 2 was disappointing? I'll have to watch the first one then. I thoughorouly enjoyed it. It wasn't 'Empire', but it was definitely entertaining.
About Indy, everyone I know who has seen it has said it was the worst of the 4, but the general consensus (excluding Reck) is that it was entertaining. Maybe a little hokey, but entertaining. But on the bright side, because of all of the bad reviews, my expectations are so low I'm sure to enjoy it.
Nestor, if I'd seen the second one first, I would've liked it more than I did. I just thought the first was more interesting, better one liners, etc.
The humor in the 2nd NT did seemed alittle forced. Plus, there was the "does the treasure really exist" question in the first. Also, Ed Harris doesn't make a good bad guy. The bad guy in the first bone was better.
Just watched "Zodiac", about the zodiac killer back in the 70's. Good movie...long movie. 2 1/2 hrs. I think. Now I'm in desperate need of something warm and fuzzy to shake it.
How about Silence Of The lambs :)
I'll ask S.
She and oldest say, How To Lose A Guy In Ten days (but that's cause a Matthew MCConawhatever).
Homeward Bound.
How bout Veggie Tales.
K, I'm not that desperate. Got Juno.
(I meant that about the last 2, saw the first one, thought it was ok.)
Mrs. Reck says, Matthew Mc Caughnawhatever? Thats just wrong. Honey, dont be jealous.
:)
Well, I liked Juno. Thinkin you might not that much. I think you'd like the writing, but the way they approach the subject matter (teen preg.),might not match up w/ your sensibilities.
Heard about it. Actually, oldest went and saw it, said it was alright, but thought it'd be better. We briefly discussed it. Heard it lessons the role of the guy in parenthood.
S was readin (and crackin-up) earlier at some a the things your kiddos have said. She reminded me about when we had just started datin and the kids were out w/ us (it was late and I was takin them all home) and the boy was asleep in the back seat. I hit a bump and he shoots upright and says, very loudly, "who's driving this car!" Thought he was gonna kick my *ss :)
Mrs. Reck, you really should set-up your own personal account at Blogger; in fact, I'm gonna do just that NOW!
That's hilarious!
Reg. Juno...I guess so. The prospective adoptive dad wasn't ready for fatherhood, and the young kid guy wasn't in a relationship w/ the teen girl, so he wasn't really a part of any decision making. That part did strike me a little odd, but they were meant to be awkward quirky kids, so in a way it was probably pretty realistic in that sense.
Well, unable to establish an account for her. When I go to set it up it keeps havin me retype password. I'll try again later; got too frustratin.
About Matthew McConawhatever. Carmen and I saw him running around Town Lake (oh that's right...Lady Bird Lake now) one day when we took the kids out for a walk. Carmen actually saw his face as she turned around, (Ryan was being grumpy and not really keeping up with us) and he just ran past us. He was the same build and had the same hair. Looked like him anyway.
Did he have a joint hangin out of his mouth and bongos around his neck? If so, sounds like a celeb spotting to me!
Don't know if that spottin technique would work in Austin, cause your description could apply to over half the people who live there.
Ha! As B would say..."good point".
Great work.
